MWL Teams Up With Trade Skills Academy

Macmillan & Wright Ltd are pleased to announce the joint venture with Trade Skills Academy. Together we are opening a training centre that engages with unemployed people, taking them through a specialist short course of training and assisting them secure employment.

Everyone who is currently out of work and on benefits is allowed two weeks per year of supported learning to attend a full time training course without losing any of their benefits. This is designed for training providers to help teach people the basics of a new skill and either help them progress onto further learning at College or alternatively find them work.

Initially, the focus will be on delivering one training programme (plumbing) as it is the most popular from our experience, there is limited mess and it requires the least amount of space. It is important to recognise that there will be a number of new employment positions created with the opening of the training centre. In the first instance positions for a Plumbing Lecturer, a full time Recruitment Consultant, an Administrator, an Evidence Collector and an Apprentice will be created. There will also be an average of 20 learners recruited to each course, totaling 40 per month. Based on the current performance this would help 28 people per month, who are currently out of work, find full time sustainable employment.

Chris Robb (Managing Director) from Trade Skills Academy said "The reason we have entered in to a joint venture agreement with MWL is because I have known Chris Wright (Director) for many years in my former business. He has substantial connections within the Ipswich area which will be invaluable when placing learners into local employment and the company will also benefit from his general local knowledge that we are naturally lacking due to our locality. He also has a desire to help make a difference to local people and 'give something back to the community' in his words to help people who are less fortunate than he is".
